I read Dune the other day….
After reading the book, seeing the movies, and the documentary on Jodorowsky"s dune I can say i’m still ambivalent about it. I really enjoyed the book, and I really enjoyed the visual design of Jodorowsky’s ideas, but the Villeneuve’s Dune lacks the dirty opulence that was so prevalent in the book. I understand the idea is brutalism, but it is at its most effective in contrast and is why the movements who coopted it did so - to show a new direction a new power. Human societies build themselves a top themselves there is a grit and a mixing that makes it human. I am not a member of the incredible team behind the artistic direction of these movies and I am not going to say my opinion is the way, because if I could draw only partially as well as they can I would be overjoyed and more qualified, but here is my version of a sand crawler that I drew when pondering this dilemma.
